No product mountains for New York Design Week

During the recent New York Design Week, ten Norwegian designers had been selected for showing just how we learn to live with fewer things.

The exhibition with the title A Few Good Things: New Designs from Norway focused on living with fewer things of higher quality, and the products were all designed with a view to sustainability.

Paul Makovsky, the curator of the A Few Good Things, explains: “In times when we all have too many things, we need to reconsider our use of design. The designers at this exhibition have been selected because they design durable products with a focus on functionality and simplicity, while still having sustainability their basis.”

Indirectly, A Few Good Things also referred to the former EU butter mountains and beef mountains. The past has created a preoccupation with the risk of a future furniture mountains, as many people posses a great amount of things.

The ten Norwegian designers and the considerations of Paul Makovsky are featured in the video

Paul Makovsky is editor in chief at the American Metropolis Magazine.
