Five from the future

Half a century after the big boom in danish design, a new generation is emerging in a wave of 'new nordic'

Emerging from the shadows of the golden age of Danish design in the 50's and 60's, a new generation of design- and interior-comapnies are reinventing the legacy into a wave of new nordic.

Hay was founded in 2002 by Rolf and Mette Hay, together with Troels Holch Povlsen. Since then the disgn-company, manufacturing anything from furniture to decorative knick-knacks, has been riding a wave of success, even through the financial crisis. Today, Hay is represented with shops and offices in multiple countries around the world.

Muuto is founded by Kristian Byrge and Peter Bonnen i 2006 – Byrge is one of the founders of famous Michelin-restaurant Noma. Among the more well-known designs from Muuto are shelves for stacking, making no two products alike - maybe Montana ought to take some pointers here?

Normann Copenhagen

Jan Andersen and Poul Madsen created Normann Copenhagen in 1999, and in 2002 they launched their first product, the lamp Norm 69. Normann Copenhagen designs textiles, decor and furniture.

Sofakompagniet is a webshop, founded by Cathrine and Christian Rudolph in 2012. Their goal is to deliver high-quality design at an affordable cost. This is made possible by removing the middle-man, maintaining the shop online and manufacturing the sofas in Vietnam. Their competitors at Nordic Sofa run by similar principles - yet Sofakompagniet has a show-room in Copenhagen.

Friends & Founders

Friends & Founders, established by Rasmus and Ida Linea Hildebrand in 2013, creates simple and clean design, meant for multiple uses; in the kitchen, the living room, the office - inside as well as outside of the home. That's why they stick to materials such as aluminium, steel, larch and brass with raw surfaces that age well. The furniture is manufactured in Denmark and Sweden.
