Beoplay A1 goes global

Portable speaker by award-winning designer Cecilie Manz sells 50,000 units in just one month.

The new Beoplay A1 is the fastest selling product in the company history of Bang & Olufsen.

The ultra-portable bluetooth speaker was announced in the end of April and it was sold in 50,000 units during the first month. For comparison the Beoplay A2 was three months to reach a similar level in sales.

- With the Beoplay A1 we have hit the mark in relation to the way consumers around the world are living with music. The trend right now is to have great sound in a beautiful and compact design to carry around everywhere , and it is especially interesting to see that it is not only a European trend . BeoPlay A1 actually sell just as well in Scandinavia and the UK, as it does in China and the United States, says Henrik Taudorf Lorensen, Corporate VP of B&O Play.

Beoplay A1 is the smallest Bluetooth speaker to date from B&O Play. Designed for life on the go by award-winning designer Cecilie Manz. The speaker comes with a contoured aluminium dome and a soft leather strap. There are no protruding buttons or legs to snag, and the surface is completely smooth.

- We wanted to make a portable speaker that people would not leave at home. The size and shape of the speaker invites you to pick it up and bring it with you as the most natural thing. The combination of premium materials, cool aluminium, soft polymer and the warm touch of leather makes it almost desirable to hold. I like the fact that the rounded, circular shape very clearly indicates the sharing of sound while lying on the table, says designer Cecilie Manz.

Cecilie Manz (1972) is a Danish industrial designer considered to be one of the leading Danish industrial designers of her generation.
