New Danish design festival presents this year's program

Danish Design Festival is a new initiative that honors the diversity of design and crafts with exhibitions, events, conferences and awards

The first edition of the Danish Design Festival is taking place this year as a prototype version. The initiative is planned as a long-term effort that will be further developed in the coming years.

The founding partners behind the Danish Design Festival are the Danish Design Center, Design Denmark, Danish Artisans & Designers, Designmuseum Denmark, northmodern, the municipality of Copenhagen and the municipality of Kolding.

- Danish Design Festival is created because we are many in the field of design and crafts that see the great potential and momentum for design right now. Danish design attracts great attention in these years and is more relevant than ever - in a classical sense with furniture and interior design, but also in the form of original crafts, digital design, welfare solutions and new approaches to innovation and development in business and society, the partners write in a press release.

Biennale kicks off the festival
The Biennale for Arts and Crafts and Design opens on May 4, marking the start of the Danish Design Festival 2017. Danish Artisans & Designers, who stand behind the biennale, invite to the reception and award of the Biennale Prize. The festival is opened by Copenhagen's Employment and Integration Mayor, Anna Mee Allerslev, as well as Director of the Danish Design Center, Christian Bason.

The bienniale takes place in Museumsbygningen in Copenhagen.

- We have a good design industry in Copenhagen, which is visionary, innovative and has a great potential for further growth. We must position ourselves as a design city worldwide, and this design festival contributes to that. I am pleased that we managed to get funding for the first Danish Design Festival in Copenhagen, and we expect it to be the starting point for something new and big for Danish design in Copenhagen, says Copenhagen's Employment and Integration Mayor Anna Mee Allerslev.

The program
The new festival focuses on diversity and offers events for all design enthusiasts - from professional to citizens and tourists.

The festival program offers:
