Special edition Wegner for design-lovers worldwide

On Friday, 16 June, design enthusiasts worldwide will have the opportunity to acquire a unique special-edition of Hans J. Wegner’s CH23 dining chair

Furniture designer Hans J. Wegner is considered the master of chair design. Few other designers have created as many notable chairs and his unique style and sense of craftsmanship and quality continue to delight design enthusiasts all over the world.

On 16 June, Carl Hansen & Son, which manufactures many of Wegner’s iconic works, will open a new chapter in its Wegner story with the reintroduction of the CH23 dining chair.

A special-edition CH23
All CH23 soap-treated oak chairs ordered on 16 June will be engraved with the reissue date and Hans J. Wegner's signature, the engraving will be discretely positioned on the inner side of the chair. Each special-edition piece will also come with a certificate of authenticity from Carl Hansen & Son.

The CH23, one of Wegner's most distinctive armless dining chairs, was one of the very first pieces of furniture he created exclusively for Carl Hansen & Son. The reintroduction of this groundbreaking design marks an important moment in the story of Wegner and Carl Hansen & Son.

- We will officially reissue the CH23 on 16 June, and offer a special edition of the chair engraved with Wegner's signature on this date to mark the occasion. It is a huge pleasure for us to welcome yet another of Wegner’s elegant chairs back into our comprehensive collection of classic pieces by this master designer, says Knud Erik Hansen, CEO of Carl Hansen & Søn.

- The CH23 is a perfect example of Wegner’s unique talent, and elegantly presents his particular gift for exploring and maximising wood’s potential. Drawing on his great insight into craftsmanship, he developed a highly personal mode of expression that is clearly displayed in the CH23, he adds.

Signature Wegner details
The CH23, produced in exact accordance with Hans J. Wegner's original hand drawing, is a simple chair notable for its fine, well-known Wegner details: elegant cruciform cover caps on the form-pressed veneer backrest, a double-woven paper cord seat, and rear legs that are arched to maximize stability – all examples of the master designer’s sense of refined craftsmanship.

The chair's organic shape and fine, carefully crafted details demonstrate that even early in his career, Wegner possessed a talent for developing chairs characterised by supreme comfort and their own aesthetic form.

- A design classic of this caliber is not only a joy to the eye, but also conveys an ideal merging of quality and function. The CH23 offers great seating comfort while also taking up little space around the table, Knud Erik Hansen explains.

The CH23 is made at the Carl Hansen & Son factory in Gelsted, on the Danish island of Funen, where talented Danish joiners and weavers ensure the highest production quality.
